And so farewell, then Michael Nader, better known as the devilish Dex Dexter in Dynasty, who died this week aged 76.
He was the perfect foil for Alexis...
Always a melodrama!
RIP, Michael Nader (19th February 1945 – 23rd August 2021)
Nighttime soaps. Never got into them. I watched Dallas for the first season, but other than Sue Ellen, there was nobody to cheer for. Dynasty left me cold, except Joan is always fun. And the less said about Knots Landing the better. Am I hallucinating, or did Bette Davis try to get in on the act with one called Hotel?
ReplyDeleteYour right uptonking. I watched Hotel religiously, like all old folk. Bette fell ill, and was replaced with Anne Baxter, who was far better with the chemistry of the show.
DeleteDynasty was the absolute #1 for me! Dallas just bored me, I couldn't get into Falcon Crest (despite the panoply of "I thought she was dead" special guests), briefly caught Flamingo Road (just because of Morgan Fairchild's hair!), and never even bothered with The Colbys (despite the divine Stephanie Beacham) nor Knot;s Landing. Hotel either just completely passed me by, or else it never was shown here? Jx
DeleteI watched Dynasty and for the love of me can't remember him.
ReplyDeleteIt's terrible getting old. Don't get old dear.
He was in the show for six years (152 episodes), so I am a bit surprised... Jx
DeleteMy mom and aunt hadn't seen each other in 10 years and the first thing they started talking about after a hug was General Hospital. Ha,ha,ha. Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Star Trek are my only forms of soap operas. Also, that red finger nail polish is just not working for me with that outfit.
ReplyDeleteThe UK had its own daytime soap of the same name in the 1970s, so the American version's a complete mystery to us. Jx
DeletePS "Jungle Red"!
Wasn't it like Coronation Street, but with bigger hair, better booze?
ReplyDeleteI only caught it on occasions when I was skiving off school, but I remember it had loads of inappropriate relationships and some very convoluted and OTT plotlines - including a dead character/love interest coming back as somebody else who happened to be a doppleganger - and it had "Adam Chance" from Crossroads, Carmen Munroe from Play School and Linda Bellingham who became the "OXO lady" in it...

Private explosions!!
ReplyDeleteAt least we still have Joan.
I can't believe I watched Dynasty!
Sx
It was precisely for such innuendo-laden OTT dialogue we loved the show - like so much stuff that arose in that era (Joan's sister Jackie's "bonk-busters" like Lace and Hollywood Wives, Bonnie Tyler videos, "gender-benders" and the Yuppie boom), it was preposterous and outlandish escapism! Jx
DeleteDex Dexter was such a fox! However, I can't forgive him for doing the dirty with Sable either. Still, Alexis got him back by landing on him (and killing him) when they fell off that balcony.
ReplyDeleteP.S. "I don't like the word 'common'." - I agree with Alexis!
DeleteThey apparently never confirmed if the fall killed him or not, but by that stage the series had waned in popularity and was not recommissioned until The Reunion years later, so the producers presumably didn't care one way or anther...
DeleteCommon? You? Never... Jx
