Cool

Apparently...

The bow tie has its origins, not in France like many think, but in Croatia. The French military forces had seen the way the Croatian soldiers tied the necktie in order to keep the collars of their shirts together during the Thirty Years' War.

After that, tobacco magnate Pierre Lorillard wore one to the Tuxedo Club, and his black and white fashion sense blossomed into becoming the Tuxedo we know currently in fashion. Typically the bow tie is worn as an accessory to accentuate the neck, helping draw eyes up to the face and away from the shoulders and chest.

Yes - it's Bow Tie Day today!

Wear yours with pride, and remember:

  2. An undone bow tie is cool. A tied one is not.
As for the colour orange - I like an orange lining in my parka.

    1. Would you like it if you bought a car with red leather seats that over time turns orange? I feel a post coming on.

    3. Dear Mitzi, I would be extremely grateful if you bought me such a car! How kind of you to offer! A Triumph Vitesse in racing green with an orange interior would be perfect. Thank you.

  3. Thank you for the back story on bowties! I did not know. I'm with Ms. Scarlet about untying the bowtie. I've never been one for pomp and circumstance, the point of beautiful clothes is its place in delayed gratification for when/if I get to unwrap the present later.

    1. I do like wearing a bow tie on occasions. I think they're very smart. In my opinion we need more people who know how to dress like a gentleman! Jx

  4. I have to come in with Jon on this. Recent years have let us down.Badly. From arse-crack rappers to fat politicians' straining shirt buttons.
Of course, I'm also guilty of scruffy dress at times!:)

    1. Thank you, Dinah. Lounging around the house during lockdown has given everyone the excuse to be scruffy, but now we can see the light at the end of the tunnel, it's about time we dispensed with all this "urban" crap and badly-fitting "it'll do" wear and got back to snappy dressing/dressing-up again!
