Showgirls, aliens and the Queen Mum doing the Calypso?

I don't know what this is from, but I want to see it!

After a bit of a hectic morning getting the place in order for our guests Baby Steve and Alex, I'm taking a breather before they arrive.

We're all off to see Penelope Wilton and Luke Evans in Backstairs Billy tonight - a farce based around the late Queen Mum and her co-dependent relationship with her long-serving "Steward and Page of the Backstairs" - and I'm really looking forward to it!

Meanwhile...

Apparently, when the Queen Mum's record collection was unearthed in 2011, among the more surprising LPs they discovered was from this band:

I can just imagine her calypso-ing with the corgis as we speak...

  1. Oh, Penelope Wilton! I love her! Although I can't help thinking of her as Shaun's poor mum in 'Shaun of the Dead'. I might need to have a little cry now.

Anyway, 'Backstairs Billy' sounds like it'll be fab - have a great time!

    1. I have never seen Shaun of the Dead, but basically everything Dame Penelope's in is vastly improved by her presence [even Ever Decreasing Circles, which was otherwise a bit shit]. Can't wait to see her do the Queen Mum; she's perfect for the role... Jx

  2. P.S. I have just watched the penultimate episode from season 4 of Star Trek: Lower Decks and the Information Broker from it has a striking similarity to the ghoul in the gifs above (although it is pased on a puppet from The Original Series episode "The Corbomite Maneuver")

    1. Geek.

I've traced it to an obscure Gerry Anderson series called Space Precinct. Never heard of it... Jx

  3. Backstairs Billy sounds fun, and I do like a bit of Wilton - she’s very dry humoured.
The tune has a snippet of God Save the Queen within it!

    1. The "God Save the Queen" snippet is a joy - and most likely why The Queen Mother loved it! Jx

PS Backstairs Billy was indeed superb. More on that later, no doubt.

  4. Now you just know she was Calypso in behind closed doors. When surprised me one bit if she also enjoyed scotch on the rocks and a cigar once in awhile with no one knowing.

    1. The Queen Mum kept loads of things hidden from the public gaze behind those closed doors - a formidable woman! Jx

    1. It will be done (eventually) - but we have another show (matinee) to go tomorrow, so it's a case of finding the time... Jx

  6. Sorry I had to turn the video off for fear of it setting off my Tinnitus.
Can you imagine how dreadful it would be to listen it with the corgis howling along to it !
