Hundreds, maybe thousands of years old - or merely 60?

Happy 60th birthday to The Doctor...

  1. I stopped watching Dr Who when David Tennant left. I was wondering when we were going to get a black one ✓

I once read a very strange and enjoyable novel by Tom Baker called The Boy Who Kicked Pigs.

    1. I assume you'll be watching it again on Saturday, as David Tennant's coming back again! [Admittedly only temporarily.]

Tom Baker is very strange... Jx

  2. Sadly, I never got into Dr Who. It was too much of a commitment in '70s when I first became aware of it. I did enjoy Tom Baker. Maybe it's not too late to do it all.

    1. Far too late to catch up on 60 years' worth of viewing, Mitch!

Doctor Who was an essential part of growing up for kids in the UK. Everyone watched it, and thus every generation has "its Doctor". Mine was Jon Pertwee. I liked Tom Baker, too, of course, but I always retained that sense that he was "merely a replacement". Jx

  3. It's a uniquely wonderful show. It's Reithian Bobbins

    1. Reithian Bobbins sounds like the name of a fruity old actor from Ealing Films. Jx

  4. I would say Reithian Schlock, but bobbins is kinder

  5. Reithian Schlock was Reithian Bobbins' real name. He was advised he'd get more work if he sounded less "foreign".

  6. Please edit this post to name all the Doctors, as you've listed them. Otherwise, some oldies can't keep up!

  8. Lovely tribute :-). My Doctor was also Pertwee, though David Tennant comes a close second. Shame its lost its way in recent years, but fingers crossed good old Russel T. can bring it back from the brink!

  9. The BBC are certainly celebrating it in style they have even colourized the Daleks.

    1. Daleks have had different colours according to rank and purpose since the very beginning in 1963/4 - but since the broadcasts were in black and white until the Jon Pertwee era, this was only ever explained in the Dalek annuals... Jx
