It was - remarkably - the 99th birthday last weekend of one of the entertainment world's last great "all-rounders", Mr Dick Van Dyke!
By way of a tribute, I thought I'd treat us to a couple of his classic movie moments:
Proving, however, that you can't keep an old trouper down, despite his venerable age - just released earlier this month is this rather emotional (and unlikely!) collaboration between Dick...
...and Coldplay!
The video is lovely. The song? Hmmmm. It's OK, but on the whole, I prefer this!
Happy belated birthday, Richard Wayne "Dick" Van Dyke (born 13th December 1925)!
All that and narrowly escaped himself and his home going up in flames from the terrible fires in Malibu. And his house a actually got saved. Dick is swell and always a joy.
ReplyDeleteHe is a true survivor! Jx
DeletePS Dick? Swell? Why is it that everything you post can be made into an innuendo, Mads? 😂😂
Oh, I can't help Jon...these things just come to me, I can't explain it. It's a gift.
DeleteThe Cold Play song and video should already be considered a classic, just like Dick Van Dyke. I grew up loving him and love him even more now. What a great man. What a survivor. What a talent!
ReplyDeleteHe was indeed a superbly talented man - although even he had to admit (and spoke to the man himself about it) that 90% of his "physical comedy" was based upon Stan Laurel! The rest was his own. Including the worst "Cock-er-ney" accent in cinematic history 🧐. Jx
DeleteSorry he has always left me cold and that's no play.
ReplyDeleteBut happy birthday to a true trouper.
I know what you mean - he was always more of a novelty than in any way a "favourite". However, he's a survivor, so that's worth celebrating. Jx
DeleteTrust you and Maddie to muddle your metaphors!
ReplyDeleteWell, it IS the Panto season! [Oh, yes it is...] Jx
