God! What kind of a woman do you think I am?!!

We're off to another of our fave pubs The Perseverance (near Great Ormond Street hospital in Bloomsbury) this afternoon, for another "gathering of the clans" at one of our irregular "Film Club" events.

This one is to mark John-John's birthday (next Thursday) - and given the impending spookiness of the Hallowe'en season, we'll be treated to not only The Witches of Eastwick (a beloved slice of campery), but also one of Bette Davis's most arch-camp-evil roles in The Anniversary:

Delicious!

  1. Ooh, I’m intrigued. Had no idea there was a Bette Davis film I hadn’t seen.

    1. Gosh. You never knew about this one? Bette Davis was in huge demand for campy "horror" roles at the time (after the success of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?), so it was quite natural that Hammer Films would lure her over the the UK. She did this and The Nanny for them - both utterly brilliant! Jx

  2. On my way to the archives to cue this up - I never heard of this Bette Davis movie, and I thought I'd seen all of them. God I love the eyepatch!

    1. So, it is becoming clear - The Anniversary appears to have disappeared "under the radar" for quite a few people... Jx

  6. Not her greatest film but a great performance and I think she fully enjoyed camping it up no end.

    1. "Acting should be bigger than life. Scripts should be bigger than life. It should ALL be bigger than life."

Bette Davis completely understood the power of camp! Jx
