Wednesday on Saturday

Finally - I caught up with series #2 of the wonderful Wednesday, with another "geek viewing" afternoon at John-John's. Utterly superb!

Such a wealth of good actors in this show - Jenna Ortega's superb in the title role, Catherine Zeta-Jones gives even Anjelica Huston a run for her money as "Morticia", there's a surprising return for the magnificent Gwendoline Christie as "Principal Weems" (who was definitely dead in series #1), and I was particularly taken with Evie Templeton as newcomer "Agnes"...

...but [and I'm with Mistress Maddie on this one} it is Dame Joanna Lumley as granny "Hester Frump" who really steals the show in every scene in which she appears! Here's a little taster:

Oh - and among the raft of interesting music played on the soundtrack - this!

Essential viewing, methinks.

  1. Ms Lumley has a habit of stealing any show she's in. She also stole Ab Fab, and more recently, Amandaland. I shall look forward to watching her in Wednesday!

    1. No idea about Amandaland (never watched it), but Dame Joanna is a mistress of the arch-camp delivery of put-down lines, can carry off the most stylishly OTT gowns, and is faultless in her timing - so is perfect for this show! Jx

  2. I haven’t seen the series because it’s not something SG would appreciate but I do have to get to it, if only for Joanna Lumley.

    1. Once you get over the fact that it is a predominately teen show, so (particularly in series 1) there are the usual "love-angst-crisis" themes in there, they are quite insignificant - and in the hands of Tim Burton, the cast and everyone else involved, it transcends all that fluff and is a classy, engaging and generally fab show. Where else would you find Christopher Lloyd as a floating head in a jar, or Tim Burton himself as a very sweary parrot..? Jx

    1. A binge-watch of epic proportions - twelve hours, on and off (we watched Addams Family Values film as well) - but worth it! Jx

  4. I knew you'd love it!!!! And Hester! On my post I commented how I'm not the biggest Catherine Zeta Jones fan, but she is doing a pretty good Morticia. And what's not to love about Gwendoline Christie?
