Shocking news - Dave Ball, the maestro behind the music of Soft Cell (and later The Grid) has died, aged just 66!

Very sad - I met him a couple of times, thanks to an old Polari chum Celine Hispiche who sang in a band of which he was a key member, and he was gruff-but-friendly, as one might expect.
By way of a tribute, this:
I'm waving goodbye - to Mr Ball, and to the end of an era...

Such sad news. It reminds me how very much I loved Soft Cell.
ReplyDeleteIt is heart-breaking. He/they had only just finished working on the new album a few days ago... Jx
DeleteI loved Soft Cell. Their songs were the only ones where I could remember most of the lyrics.
ReplyDeleteSx
I still quote them to this day... Jx
DeleteGone 66 OMG. What a tragic loss
ReplyDeleteSoft Cell's music was a great combination of him and Marc.
Sometimes 2 and 2 make 5
Agree wholeheartedly - there has been a plethora of duos where the frontman gets all the attention, but wouldn't be quite the big hitter without the talents of the "quiet one in the background" (cf. Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, Associates, OMD, Blancmange, Yazoo).
DeleteRIP, Dave. Jx
