Mesdames, messieurs, le disc-jockey Sash est de retour

Having a bit of a pottering day [it's too humid to be really energetic; just a bit of dead-heading and spot-watering], and listening to Vernon Kay's Dance Sounds of the 90s on BBC Radio 2 - inevitably I was whisked back to an odd and life-changing era for me, 1997, when I was dancing my little titties off...

...to SASH! Here are their three megahits from that year:

Fuck. Twenty-seven years ago?! That's the year Simone Biles, Camila Cabello, Maisie Williams, Zara Larsson, Marcus Rashford, Max Verstappen and Google were all born... Gulp.

  1. I’m repeatedly shocked to be told how long ago the ’90s were. Was there even life before Google?!? I was managing computing communications in the early ’90s at Yale University. We were all excited then about the world-wide web and the possibilities it might bring.

    1. I remember the first computers in work that could "talk to each other", and how excited we were to see all those typed-in green letters appear one-by-one on the screen - from another organisation! Then came WINDOWS, and we were utterly boggled... How far and how fast things change.

And yes, the 1990s is scarily far away. Even scarier, 27 years before Sash!, we were in the era of Bridge Over Troubled Water, the Isle of Wight Festival, Mungo Jerry, Freda Payne, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and the last albums by The Beatles... Jx

  2. Camia Cabello was a feature of the mid-90s? How is that possible? I'm with Mitchell, I still think 20 years ago was 1970.

    1. She was born then, dear.

It is a difficult concept, time - I think of Madonna's Hung Up as being just yesterday, but it, and Don't Cha by Pussycat Dolls, Push the Button by Sugababes and Filthy/Gorgeous by Scissor Sisters are all TWO DECADES AGO now. Eeek! Jx

  3. I still think of 1997 as fairly recent, but then I realise it's in the time before achey knees!

    1. Indeed. I can't exactly "dance my little titties off" these days - and the titties aren't as little, either. Jx

  4. I have always loved the way the lady says 'Mesdames, messieurs, le disc-jockey Sash est de retour'
Amazing music and still amazing after all these years
