We're ready to roar!
L’Oréal, the world’s biggest cosmetics maker, envisions a boom for beauty once the Covid-19 pandemic subsides similar to the roaring 1920s that followed the global influenza pandemic of 1918.Jean-Paul Agon, the L’Oréal chief executive, on Friday predicted a “fiesta” in the beauty market.
“People will be happy to go out again, to socialise,” he said. “This will be like the Roaring 20s, there will be a fiesta in makeup and in fragrances. Putting on lipstick again will be a symbol of returning to life.”
Any excuse, really, for this party choon:
But, wait! How about a new interpretation by the chap who was responsible for last year's would-be Eurovision winner (had the contest actually gone ahead) - and on my list of fave songs of 2020 - Daði Freyr?
Love it...
Darling Jon,
ReplyDeleteYes, love it. We cannot believe that this would have been an entry into the Eurovision contest which usually contains such silly songs.
Well, perhaps there will be a beauty boom. If only people would make more of an effort in lockdown. Lipstick still works the same magic on Zoom.
Well, the original by Jedward was the actual Eurovision entry back in 2011 - it came sixth. Daði Freyr performed a brilliant song called Think About Things (to which I added a link) for Eurovision last year, but the contest itself was cancelled in favour of a "remote event" that featured all the artists but no votes. Jx
DeletePS I expect we'll all be slathered in Max Factor by summer 2021...
Go out? Socialise?? I'll need my brain re-wiring and then about six weeks soaking in a vat of Oil of Ulay first! Only then might I consider a ham-fisted smear of lipstick.
ReplyDeleteI do rather like that Daði Freyr cover!
I know! The thought of actually going to places with people in them (that aren't just selling food, drink and bog roll) for entertainment (that isn't just radio, TV and internet) is slightly daunting, lipstick or no lipstick. We've been fortunate to have managed to enjoy a few things (including our trip to Amsterdam and for me, two visits to Polari at the RVT) between lockdowns, but even so... Jx
DeleteI, too, predict a “fiesta” in the beauty market. In fact, there will be a lot of spending, in general on any number of things. People will return to purchasing stuff they don't need, too.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to "shopping for stuff I don't need" more than I am going to pubs, to be honest. Trouble is, there are so many shops that have gone forever from the high street (so far we have lost Debenhams, Top Shop (and Dorothy Perkins and Miss Selfridge), Burtons, Peacocks, Edinburgh Woollen Mill, TM Lewin, Monsoon/Accessorize and Carphone Warehouse; and Marks & Spencer, Boots, WH Smith and John Lewis are all in trouble) I am not sure how much choice there will be to browse in any more... Jx
DeleteBlimey! All those that kept High Street going!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DeleteAnd America keeps celebrating some poor mediaeval bugger who was beaten and beheaded as a ...love icon? WTF?? I've never been into the hearts and choccies thing. Sex and romance, yes, but Hallmarkery?
Have a chocolate, dear.
I need chocolate to take my mind off being back in work today. Jx
DeleteOh I do hope so it would make a change to see the chavettes around here make an effort with a bit of maquillage.
ReplyDeleteThe old saying comes to mind: "You can put lipstick on a pig, and it's still a pig." Jx
