How lovely. Hope she had a blast and that you made her day special. Kizzes. Oh, and that movie was made in England and Bette had one of the girls fired from the production and replaced with a young actress she liked. The show had been a west end hit... and most of the cast reprise their roles... except that one girl. Feel for her. But then... Bette gets what she wants.
Oh, I didn't see her on her birthday - I was in work. It's mine next week, and guess what? I'll be working! For the first time ever.
Bette made a few films in the UK in her later career, including Connecting Rooms (which I never saw) and The Nanny, which was fabulously sinister. However, The Anniversary was a masterpiece of camp or the highest order. She may have been a bitch, but heavens! She was a force to be reckoned with on-screen. Jx
PS Incidentally, the marvellous Dame Sheila Hancockwasn't replaced by command of La Davis (although she wanted to, but her choice Jill Bennett wasn't available), but the original director Alvin Rakoff was!
Thanks to one and all for their kind birthday greetings. I was actually whisked away for a day in the Cotswolds and Oxford by my beloved (History Boy). Fab, but we're now having major Inspector Morse flashbacks. Don't feel too sorry for Delores having to work on his birthday, he is being taken to see Tom Jones at the weekend! Lucky bugger. Hils xxx
Happy Heavenly Birthday Bett!
ReplyDeleteAnd many Happy Returns to your dear friend, Hils.
It isn't Bette's birthday, but it is (or was at time of typing) my sister's (that's my actual sister, not a euphemism)... Jx
DeleteOh! What the hell...the sun's over somebody's yard-arm! Happy (recent) Birthday to your sis.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure she won't mind raising a glass a day late. In fact, any day! Jx
DeleteHappy birthday, dear sister!
ReplyDeleteShe loves the attention. Jx
