Nowhere to run to baby, nowhere to hide

It's been quite the week for famous names "dropping like flies", or so it seems...

... icons such as Dame ONJ, Issey Miyake, Raymond Briggs, and, of course that stalwart of the classic Motown era, Mr Lamont Dozier!

Decades before the likes of the BeeGees or Stock Aitken Waterman, Holland-Dozier-Holland was the true "hit factory" - the songwriting partnership that made Tamla-Motown, and launched the careers of gazillions of household-name artists (some of whom, such as Miss Ross, are stil going today) such as Mary Wells, The Temptations, Junior Walker and the All-Stars, Freda Payne, and this lot - a classic selection of H-D-H creations that don't even begin to scrape the surface of the great man's vast repertoire, nor his legacy to the world of music...

RIP, Lamont Herbert Dozier (16th June 1941 – 8th August 2022)

  1. It really is amazing how many excellent songs they cranked out.

    1. Apparently they composed more than 400 songs, 130 of which were hits in the USA. That's phenomenal, really. Jx

  2. I don't think Stock Aitken Waterman tunes will be remembered as fondly as this collection!

    1. Oh, I dunno - who would have thought that "Rick-rolling" craze would have happened twenty years after Mr Astley's biggest hit? Listen to daytime Radio 2 for long enough, and it's a safe bet a S-A-W classic will pop up sooner rather than later... Jx

  3. A truly amazing output... such a talent. It was a one-of-a-kind phenom, Motown. Very sad what's become of its birthplace. Detroit deserves better. Kizzes.

    1. As you rightly say, Motown carved a unique place in history, and its music, at least, is loved. I know little about Detroit, other than that song by Fedde Le Grand... Jx

    1. I just adore that video clip, too - the little white kid hogging centre-stage and mouthing every single lyric was amazing, and the girls doing Supremes routines were faboo... Jx
