I'm a drama queen if that's your thing, baby

You know you're getting old when...

...you discover that "Ginger Spice" Geri Halliwell is 50 years old!

It seems like only yesterday that we first encountered the "musical-hen-party" that was the Spice Girls, leaping all over the place and picking fights with Noel Gallagher! I was never a huge fan of them as an ensemble, but they certainly were a phenomenon - and Geri always took centre stage, with her campery and chutzpah.

When she finally departed the group, it was this track that converted me to the lady's talents - I adored it back in 1999, and still adore it today:

She had a prodigious run of hits, including this...

...and this one (another fave):

We even queued for hours to see her live on stage at G.A.Y. at the sadly-missed Astoria! She was superb.

Of course, despite marriage, motherhood and a stint as a UN goodwill ambassador, the lure of a Spice Girls reunion was rather inevitable, culminating in a blockbuster sell-out tour in 2019 - and as the hoo-ha builds over their 25th anniversary, there are rumours they'll be on the road again.

Geri, you're an icon!

Many happy returns, Geraldine Estelle "Geri" Horner, née Halliwell (born 6th August 1972)

  2. Adored Look At Me. Was she the first to leave the fold? FIVE DECADES OF DIVA? Wow. Long way from being a page three girl! Good for her.

    1. She was the only one to publicly quit - although "snub nose" Victoria turned down the most recent tour to concentrate on her "fashion" business... "Posh" would never have made Page Three, either. No tits. Jx

    2. I agree. Ginger and Emma were always my two favorites. I just adore some of Emma's solo stuff, especially the Fosse inspired choro. The video still, from the fashion to the vibes gives me chills with its style.

    3. Emma did do some good solo stuff, as did "Sporty", but it's still Geri every time for me. Jx

    4. Regarding Maybe - according to Wikipedia: "The unusual inspiration behind the song was a soundtrack album of 1970s German porn music; Bunton and her collaborators "found some ideas out of that". She described the process as "mad" and "hilarious", while noting the style of the finished song is reminiscent of its origins."

No surprise you love it so! 😊 Jx

  3. Sorry, but what changed a gear in my mind was Charlie Rich's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hvrn5RU6Q8

    Didn't she marry Mr. Jagger?

    1. I don't believe there is any conceivable link between Geri Halliwell and - ahem - Charlie Rich! He's a one-hit-wonder over here - his The Most Beautiful Girl was big a year after Geri was born.

Are you getting Geri mixed up with Bianca, Jerry Hall, or maybe Marianne Faithfull? Jx

  4. I was a secret Geri fan! I did like Look at Me - I thought it was very entertaining - and truthful.
