Nothing lasts forever, of that I’m sure

Phew! Almost there...

The weekend's looming, we have another "gathering of the clans" tomorrow for History Boy's birthday, and it's payday!

There are also celebrations of a different kind - as the original "lounge lizard", the frontman of one of the most influential bands in pop history, and still the coolest man on the planet, Mr Bryan Ferry blows out 80 candles on his cake today.

All hail.

Fittingly, to get our party going, let's have a boogie to Roxy Music's own venture onto the dancefloor, shall we? - and Thank Disco It's Friday!!

Have a great weekend, peeps!

  1. I like it! I'm not familiar with this band, though I've probably heard them before and just didn't know who they were. It happens. Happy Friday, Jon!

  2. Same Old Scene is one of my favorite Roxy Music songs, which means it's also one of my favorite songs of all time.

    1. It was certainly a high point in their career - just before things got all a bit "dreamy" with their Avalon era. Jx

  3. The King of cool is 80 and still as cool as fuck.
When I was young there were all kinds of pop idols and pin ups but he and his music were in a bracket all of their own.

    1. Indeed - nothing else sounded like Roxy Music, and no-one else looked like them either. Bolan, Bowie, Roxy - what a remarkable era the early 70s turned out to be! Jx

  4. My heart sank when I saw Bryan's picture in my sideboard thinking he had joined the celestial choir in the sky. I often play the beginning of Mother of Pearl for landing, it blocks out the sound of the engines nicely. I quite like the Scissor Sisters version of The Strand however their version of Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb still remains a travesty.

    1. Thankfully, he's one of the greats of that era who still seems to be in good shape - alongside Sir Rod and Dame Elton. I don't remember hearing Scissor Sisters' version of Do the Strand - but I adored Comfortably Numb! Never having been into Pink Floyd I didn't even know the original. Jx
