Every so often, I feel the need to inject a little bit of class into this place - and just such an opportunity has arrived, courtesy of something I discovered this week on a new online radio station we've started listening to - Scala Radio [its blurb: "Classical Music for Modern Life"]
Whoever would have thought a mash-up like this would work? Yet it does...
As does this:
Fab, indeed.
The full CD is available from Naxos Recordings.
Fascinating. And yes, don't class up the joint, dear. I like it as it is... :P
ReplyDeleteHave no fear - I only have occasional lapses into "class with a capital K". Jx
DeleteThis reminds me of STEPS' "Overture" from The Last Dance (only "Overture" isn't really Baroque). In fact, I've put it on and I'm listening to it now!
ReplyDeleteVivaldi, The Beatles, Steps - that's the course of evolution writ large! Jx
DeleteI really liked the USSR one much better, probably because I never was that fond of Norwegian Wood. But both were really well made mashups. And thanks for pointing me towards Scala; I need something new to listen to.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like it could be an interesting CD. I'm no great fan of The Beatles per se, but melding their music with Vivaldi and Bach is a whole new experience... Jx
DeletePS Hope you can get Scala Stateside! They are part of a larger operation that also includes Jazz FM, rock and retro stations as well, so you have a good choice of genres in one player.
I'm not a great Beatles fan, but these two "blends" are fantastic. It made me think of Menuhin jamming with Grapelli.Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI'm please you enjoyed them, Dinah. The Menuhin/Grappelli pairing was, however, in a completely different - stratospheric - league. To think, if they hadn't been invited onto Michael Parkinson's chat-show way back in 1972 the two might never have met, let alone recorded together! Jx
DeleteClever! I like very much, and I am a Beatles fan.

The best of all worlds! Jx

ReplyDeleteFor a moment, I thought you were going to say you'd downloaded the album to add to our collection! Jx
