All the right junk in all the right places

We've broken the back of the "Spring refresh" in the garden - now roll on summer! [click to embiggen]

The final day of my holiday. It's still a bit nippy out there, so just pottering today in the occasional bouts of sunshine, listening to "our kind of music"...

...and here's our resident orchestra and chorus to provide a bit more!

Perfect.

  1. Oh, doesn't it look neat and tidy. You must be very satisfied, now. All that remains is for a rise in temperatures so everything can GROW!

I spent the morning painting the fence and an old gate that I'm going to use as a trellis for such climbers as Ipomoea "Kniola's Black, and/or multifida, and/or Cobaea scandens. And this afternoon it snowed - not much, fortunately - so I went indoors and put up some shelves.
Now I could do with a holiday. Perhaps to wherever it was that Diana Rigg was wafting around in in your previous post?

I hope tomorrow isn't too Monday for you.

    1. Indeed I do feel a sense of achievement at getting all those pots - there are dozens and dozens of them, as you can imagine, and the process actually started last month - sorted to the degree they are now. (The excessive application of gravel is meant to act as a squirrel/fox deterrent by the way, rather than because we've suddenly swapped herbaceous plants for alpines. There was either a peanut or a black walnut buried in just about every pot I turned out. I want the vermin to starve, not bury their food resources in with our plants!)

Temperatures are still not yet "on the up", according to the Met Office (no snow forecast, thankfully) - but we will see blooms on that Madeira geranium before too long; it's breaking bud already... Speaking of "breaking", our kitchen is swarming with new seedlings at the moment, and the dahlias are trying to form flower buds (well they were, till I pinched them all out), so there will soon be more pots needing attention!

Yes, a proper holiday - with Diana Rigg (or indeed, anyone) - would be very welcome. Jx

  2. It looks lovely! Do you have a small café table somewhere out of the picture where you can sit and enjoy your hard work with a preferred beverage?

    1. We're adaptable - as long as there's enough room to put a glass and an ashtray on it, that's a "table"... Jx

  3. Melanie, I think the idea of sitting down in a garden maybe a fantasy some gardeners harbor, but every time I attempted it, I wound up jumping up to go weed something that caught my attention.

An Like DeVice said, it does look beautifully tidy. I am so envious.

    1. You are so right, Mr P - there's always something that needs doing! It's all very orderly and regimented at the moment, but we haven't even started on the whole "Tetris" game of putting them all in their right place to create the summer garden effect... Jx

    Anyhow, I love the music!

    1. It was a long process to get it to the "tidy" stage - it needs more effort than a conventional garden, because we have only a tiny bit of actual "soil" to plant anything in, and to get things to actually flourish in pots they need to have the boost of new compost every year or two.

Postmodern Jukebox are consistently brilliant! We love them. Jx

  5. Hellloooooo from the sodden depths of the jungle. Where, apparently, the monsoon-y rain has been hiding.I'd tossed some weeds and prunings onto the driveway to get the ants off and with before binning it. Two nights of distant lightning and very much right-here-rain.Not complaining, but man we're soggy! So Mr Bradlee is just the ticket. Thank you.

    1. I'm very pleased to say we have had no rain here of any significance for weeks - gave us a good "window of opportunity" to get the garden done without getting as sodden as you sound to be...

Just allow your armchair to subsume you, and enjoy some Postmodern Jukebox - much more fun! Jx
