At Auntie's party tonight

On this wet, miserable, cold October July Saturday, I'm mostly lounging around the place listening to BBC Radio.

How about a little celebration of that Great British Institution by Iain Farrington - A Party with Auntie? That'll do nicely...

It may be a little unfair on our Yankee chums, but this piece contains no fewer than fifteen famous BBC programme themes - how many can you name?

  1. Sorry y'all are having wet weather over there, sweetpea, whilst we sizzle here! BTW, you're absolutely correct this Yankee chum couldn't name one! xoxo

    1. We had a terrible winter, a terrible Spring, then a warm June, and now it's all gone to crap again. We look on enviously at the pavements cracking all around the Mediterranean and the States.

I wouldn't expect anyone who's never been able to watch the BBC to know these theme tunes, of course. I would be like asking me to name a character in an American daytime soap, or know who your newsreaders are. Jx

    2. I really thought I'd catch at least one, Jon, because we've spent time in the UK and watched the BBC! When we lived in Saudi Arabia, many BBC programs were shown. Go figure, right? xoxo

    3. Even I didn't get them all (and I cannot find a definitive list on the web anywhere to say what the fifteen actually are) - but I spotted Animal Magic, Blackadder, Antiques Roadshow, Horse of the Year Show, Test Match Special, Match of the Day, Doctor Who, Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, EastEnders and The Archers in the mix... 4. There was a bit of Strictly just before Doctor Who as I recall. I'm just going to give it another listen...

    5. Or after Doctor Who even. I didn't recognise any more than you did, Jon (I didn't get The Archers, and I recognised Animal Magic as being from W1A as I'd completely forgotten about AM!).

    6. I missed Strictly Come Dancing completely. Now I'm going to have to listen again, too! Jx

    8. Oh, yes! Ski Sunday. I recognised the theme, but could place which sport it belonged to, and then when I saw your list it seemed to fit with horses.

  2. I recognised some bits and, were I a better lip-reader, might have picked some up from the conductor who seemed to be having great time!

    1. Didn't she just? I love it when the conductor is so enthusiastic - like Gustavo Dudamel or Sir Simon Rattle. Jx

  3. Usually this time of year I long for at least one wet, miserable, cold day. We've got more of the same, sunny, hot, and humid, for the foreseeable future.

  4. Very Jolly.
    Lord Reith would be proud.

  5. Have I got News, and Panorama must have been difficult to play. Dr Who sounds very odd. They did Eastenders proud though!

    1. It's an extremely clever - and complicated - piece altogether! Jx
