A long, autumnal, miserable week draws to its welcome close, and it's time to sparkle!
It may be somewhat impractical, however, to suggest that we choose to dress up in an outfit like Miss Dee D Jackson - she was definitely a one-off...
Let us instead merely marvel at the glory that is her one and only UK hit Automatic Lover, and Thank Disco It's Friday!
Have a great weekend, folks!
Dee D Jackson
[PS: Eagle-eyed viewers might have spotted the fact that this is indeed another recycled post from @decadeago. Some weather patterns never change, it seems.]
An “interesting” song and video. When I say “interesting,” I mean I had to stop it half way through. I kept waiting for the Emperor Ming the Merciless from the 1930s to step out of the shadows.
ReplyDeleteHa! He would have been an improvement on that pound-shop "robot"... Jx
DeleteWhat did I just watch???
ReplyDeleteBut is seems to be fitting after this long week.
This was the heyday on the "one-hit-wonder" in the UK - and heavens, we had loads of them - and this was certainly one of the most memorable... Jx
DeleteWell, her voice has a lot of potential and I think she could have been more successful with the right manager. As for the robot, it looks like someone raided the plumbing department with a few items from lighting as well. Not at all sexy and this comes from a woman who really like to hang out in the hardware store! Hahaha.
ReplyDeleteNot even Giorgio Moroder could bring her the stardom she craved - however, she had much more success in Europe than the UK and now lives in Italy and owns a record label of her own, so she did something right... Jx
DeleteYou do find them.
ReplyDeleteI try my best! Jx
DeleteMitzi is right.
ReplyDeleteIt's a vocation. Jx
DeleteLes '70s' étaient parfois magiques et très divertissantes à l'image de Mademoiselle Dee D. *d'Anjou
ReplyDeleteThere really wasn't a more oddly diverse decade than the 1970s, d'accord! Jx
DeleteI have a horrible feeling that I recorded this from the radio. Never mind.
ReplyDeleteSx
That takes me back - taping stuff from the radio! It was always a victory if one managed to get the whole song without recording Simon Bates or Peter Powell introducing it. Jx
DeleteLoved it when it came out and still love it now
ReplyDeleteI see what people mean about the robot though,
It looks like it was created for 'Wallace and Gromit'
Wallace and Gromit's robot contraptions were more convincing. Jx
