Oh, I miss the Woolworths in Cromer (it's an Iceland now. Bah!) - many a happy Saturday morning was spent in there deciding what to buy wth my pocket money.
Make sure you get a handfull at the pick'n'mix, Jon! And Merry Christmas to you and Madam A!!
Woolies in Newport was my favourite shop when I was a kid, too - toys, games and sweets, what's not to love? I'm old enough to remember it having a food hall, where you could by everything "loose" - individual fishcakes and fish fingers and so on, scoops of peas, biscuits, the lot - and the cafe was the same; no set menu, just individual prices for every item you wanted on your plate. Fab! It's demolished now, and the nasty postmodern building on the site appears to be occupied by a mass of boarded-up shops and a pawnbrokers. Much like the whole town. Jx
Please, if my titties rest on my stomach, and my stomach gets that big as to not even see my own cock.... there is going to be a crush course diet I can tell you.
Woolies over here was an institution, one of the major high street shops (alongside British Home Stores, Boots, WH Smith and Marks and Spencer, the last three of which are (surprisingly) still going). Their Xmas adverts were always a cheesy spectacular! Jx
Shields and Yarnell? And a bloke who looks like an ABBA? Fascinating. I worked for Wooly in the 1980's, managing the record department in the IDS Tower in downtown Mpls. LOVED IT. We got paid in cash in a tiny envelope each Friday - and I can't believe I thought that was making a living! Thanks for the memories, dear. Kizzes.

It's a look... Jx
The Goodies, and Anita Harris!! That advert put me in mind of the conveyor belt on The Generation Game.
ReplyDeleteHappy Festering Day, Jon!!!
Sx
...and Windsor Davies and Don Estelle, to boot! It's so, so 1970s, conveyor belt and all.
DeleteHappy eating, Ms Scarlet! Jx
I wonder if you can still get the "super screw kit"...
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the humbugs, Jon!
I think I may have had a super screw or two in my time...
DeleteHumbuggery, indeed! Jx
I love Santa. I don’t remember Woolworth’s TV commercials in the States. And that was an awfully long and tacky cracking commercial.

ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. Woolies was the place to buy records - it's where the bulk of my singles came from! Happy memories... Jx
DeletePS I have no idea who "Shields and Yarnell" are/were.
Oh my word I thought it was never going to end. My brain is numb.
ReplyDeleteIt was a very different world. I can't imagine anything like this being shown on our screens today! Jx
