...Regina Linnanheimo in Restless Blood.
The "Big Freeze" continues, and the chances of dozens of plants in the extensive gardens here at Dolores Delargo Towers surviving it are getting slimmer, work's being a bitch, I heard Mariah Carey playing for the first time (in a shop so was unable to run and switch it off), and a mysterious and worrying discovery - an entire folder of my "projects" has been wiped off the expansion drive of our home PC, and (despite downloading several freeware file recovery programs) I think it's all gone for good.
It's lunchtime, and I am tempted to pack up and head to the nearest pub.
I need a holiday, indeed.
I vote pub.
ReplyDeleteIt was a very tempting option, but I was on the cider by 5pm - that helped. Jx
DeleteProjects? Do you mean future Blog posts?? I wish I had such files to lose! Bummer though.
ReplyDeleteI started on the Black Russians yesterday - hoping that the Tia Maria will last until the 25th, otherwise I'll just have to buy more.
Sx
Loads of stuff is lost. I had all my payslips and my will saved (admittedly the former are all online in work, and then latter I emailed to myself), and there were all sorts of bits and pieces in that folder, including ideas for future blog posts (music I'd heard, stuff I'd read) - worst of all, my day-by-day collated list of famous people who died in 2022, that I use for the annual "Book of the Dead", which will take a lot of time to replicate. I'll probably never know the full range of things that have disappeared until I come to look for them... Sigh. Jx
DeleteI would have chosen the pub.
ReplyDeleteThat's you, me and Maddie propping up the bar, then. Ms Scarlet can dial in on Zoom. Jx
DeleteI'm not sure how to do zoomies, but I would most definitely help you drown your sorrows. I've lost "important stuff" in the old days ( I don't suppose you remember typewriters and carbon paper?) and can share the agony. Pours another flute of bubbles and raises glass in direction of Blighty....
ReplyDeleteEven my mother, who is 87, can do Zoom conversations!
DeleteClink, clink, sweetie... Jx
Oh, no, Jon! I dont know what's worse, loosing your files or the plants?
ReplyDeleteAlthough, thinking about it, I think I'd rather keep the files and lose the plants, because at least there'll be excitement in the Spring when it's discovered which plants pulled through. And then, of course, there's the excuse of going wild in the garden centre!! (funds permitting)
The loss of plants is a big blow (but as you say, it's surprising what might survive). We're already planning a massive shopping binge in Spring.
DeleteThe files - gawd only knows what was there that can never be replaced. Time will tell... Jx
Such a shocking tragedy to loose your files and all that work, as for the plants we shall see in the Spring. They at least can be replaced - 'Cheque book Jerry'
