What made you think that I was one of those girls?

Monday again. So soon?

The last gasps of summery weather disappeared with a vengeance this weekend, as the "Spanish Plume" gave way to vicious northerly winds. Last night it went down to 0C/32F!

Another departure for (the cheesier outer echelons of) Fabulon reaches our ears - that of Suzanne Somers. Completely unknown over here (being most famous for appearing in the US remake of our own wildly popular 70s sitcom Man About The House), nevertheless she made quite a career out of playing to the "ditzy blonde" stereotype [a sort of bargain-basement Goldie Hawn in Laugh-in] - and on this Tacky Music Monday, here she is doing her best "Miss Adelaide":

Have a good week, dear reader. Keep warm.

  1. She was entertaining in the TV series “Three’s Company,” and got screwed over in terms of salary (in comparison to the male star), stood her ground and left. I was surprised when she proved to have real talent, but she started making some over-the-top medical claims, which made me lose interest in her.

    1. I wouldn't be able to judge her on any kind of "talent", since this video is probably the only thing I ever saw her in. And it looks like she's miming. Jx

  2. Definitely lipsynch. She wasn't much, even in her show, just the kind of "OK, no big deal" talent that thousands of other girls come to Hollywood with, but the few times i saw her speak after she left TV she seemed very bright.

  3. I recently watched Man About The House 50 Years of Laughter on channel 5, it was nice to see the cast talking about the old days, I was quite shocked when I saw Sally Thomsett and Brian Murphy, isn't old age a bastard? Well at least Sally has had her teeth fixed.

    1. It is remarkable that Brian Murphy's still with us at 91. [Mind you, Stanley Baxter's still around, aged 97.]

Sally Thompsett looked like Jabba the Hutt last time I saw her, and poor old Richard O'Sullivan's been in a nursing home for years [the same one as Mike Yarwood, who only recently popped his clogs]. Only Paula Wilcox seems to have emerged OK, it seems...

    2. I am fascinated by Paula’s hair on Corrie - it must be a wig - so shiny! I meant to look it up today, so thank you for the reminder.
I recognised Ms Somers - she must have been in something that I was familiar with?

    3. I've not watched Corrie since the era when Alf Roberts died in his armchair and Reg Holdsworth, Maureen Naylor and Maud Grimes were all still in it, so I can't comment on the "wig or no wig" debate.

As for where you saw Miss Somers before, well, she did make a cameo appearance in Serial Mom, and she was apparently in the US version of Strictly Come Dancing in 2015... Jx

  4. Growing up Three's Company was one of the shows I watched regularly. Hearing of her death made me a little sad from the viewpoint of nostalgia. I agree with Mitchell and Peenee's comments. While not a huge talent, she wasn't overly annoying either and most of the time that's enough to make me think well of someone.

    1. If you've grown up with somebody's presence - no matter how "naff" the context - their loss is real. We all watched some truly dreadful trash when we were kids/growing up, but the characters in those trashy shows were people we recognised. Here in the UK, there were probably as many "throwaway" light entertainment shows as there were in the US, but finding out that one of "those-faces-from-that-show" have gone still gives a wave of nostalgia, if nothing else.
