Lord knows, at least I was there, and I'm here!

It's one of the UK's greatest jazz singers - and "national treasure" - Dame Cleo Laine's birthday today!

All hail - she is still here!

Many happy returns, Dame Cleo Laine, Lady Dankworth DBE (born Clementine Dinah Campbell, 28th October 1927)

  2. I went to see her in Columbus, Ohio, many years ago. most of the people in the audience had no idea who she was (it was Ohio remember), they had season seats and had simply shown up for another show....but by the end of the concert, she had them in the palm of her hand. Johnny was still alive and great as well.

  5. Certaines dames ont mérité le droit de chanter cette chanson,
Dame Clio Laine en fait partie.

    1. She's universally liked - even when she goes "off-piste" with all that scat stuff. Jx

  7. I adore this woman and her voice.
I do sometimes wish that she didn't veer towards the 'Dark Side' of jazz. I have never been into scat.
This is a fab choice of video to show case her great talent and persona.
