The promised sunshine this weekend has failed to materialise - it's grey and gloomy, and it's so humid it feels like it might even rain. Dammit.
I think a little selection of choons that have caught my ear of late is in order...
A little early for Hallowe'en, here's one of my fave bands making a welcome return:
[See my other blog Dolores Delargo Towers: Museum of Camp for a completely different - the original - number of the same name.]These two look like they're having a load of fun with this one - the pairing of a lady who's very much "in vogue", together with one who's having a major resurgence right now...
Watch out! Trollops about!
Next up, something irresistibly catchy by a long-term crush - even if it is in French!:
When a legend takes a new approach to an absolute classic...
And last, but very much not least - it's the UK's very own "Queen of Soul", with a disco-themed earworm!
As ever, dear reader, let me know your thoughts...
You know when Dolly Parton "screams at the top of her lungs" you got some serious lung power facing you.
ReplyDeleteDolly's lungs have always been her most prominent feature 🤣 Jx
DeleteI only had time to listen to one, so I went for Beverley Knight - she still looks and sounds fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI'll be back for the others tomorrow.
P.S. Isn't the greyness down to Canadian wildfire smoke in the atmosphere? (Or has that passed over now?)
DeleteDame Beverley [not yet, but should be!] is simply marvellous. I've seen her live and... wow!
DeleteI'm keeping you to your promise to return, by the way! Jx
PS I've seen no "lilac moon", and I've not heard anything about a Canadian smoke invasion. [Don't tell MJ, she'll get ideas!] I put it down to being in Britain, the land that doesn't have "climate", just "weather".
Here I am! Again.
DeleteGiving Dame Beverley a run for her money are Duran Duran and Dame Beverley again (I'm listening to it again now).
The others didn't really do anything for me, unfortunately. I like Dolly and Shania, but Anne-Marie's voice rubs me the wrong way, as does Jess Glynn's. Mika's effort is a nice piece of fluff, though - especially as it's in French. Ooh, la la!
At least there's a couple of bits you liked this time round - maybe we should start a petition to get Dame Beverley the title she deserves! Jx
DeleteSo much music. So little time. I want to sing five languages like Mika.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing like a foreign tongue. Or several. Jx
DeleteOh, how I agree. Some accents give me the shiversl
DeleteIt wasn't voices I was on about... 🤭 Jx
DeleteAnd I completely missed it! It's a sad day.
DeleteBless. Jx
DeleteOh, I had a discussion about the Anne Marie one the other day as it sounds like something else, but I've forgotten what it was now - so familiar though!
ReplyDeleteLater on in the day there was some confusion about Beverly Knight, and Gladys Knight. I saw Ms Knight on Strictly and I thought she was looking very good for her 79 years of age, and then I was put right.
Sx
The Anne-Marie/Shania one is very reminiscent of Kylie Minogue's Dancing, in my opinion.
DeleteI'd love to hear a duet between "the Knights"!
Gladys would still win, even at 79. Jx
I will get back to this later when I have more time xxx
ReplyDeleteThere's quite a bit I think you'll like... Jx
DeleteAnother fab collection all downloaded and added to the Delargo music library.
ReplyDeleteBeverley Knight is doing a massive tour to celebrate her 50th birthday.
Might be fun to go along to one. She is fab (but not as fab as Gladys Knight.).
Having seen "Our Bev" live once, I can honestly say she is worth it! Jx
