"Diana Dors represented that period between the end of the war and the coming of Lady Chatterley in paperback, a time when sexuality was naughty, repressed and fit to burst." - David Thompson in The Independent.
Indeed she did...
...and the divine Miss Dors would have been 90 years old today!
We still miss her.
RIP, Miss Diana Mary Fluck (aka Diana Dors), 23rd October 1931 – 4th May 1984)
Oh, Diana Dors! As much as I love her in Adam Ant's "Prince Charming" video, this was her greatest role (in my humble opinion, anyway)!
ReplyDeleteOnce her "blonde bombshell" days were well and truly over, she revelled in being a "camp icon", didn't she? Jx
DeleteThat video was hilarious!! xoxo
DeleteI still miss her. We shared a couple of things, comedic double entendre being one.
DeleteAnother "celebrity anecdote tease", Dinah? I am waiting for this tell-all autobiography! Jx
DeleteTwo lumps and a sponge finger! I really ought to watch all of the Two Ronnies again!
ReplyDeleteYes, Diana Dors was terrific in anything - I remember when she took on a non-glamorous role in the weekly Hammer House of Horror, where she played a warty housekeeper - we were all glued to the box.
Sx
That was a particularly sinister episode, as I recall - she was basically a "child-catcher"... Jx
DeleteI'm sorry, but I move at the speed of the fae and this song is just too sloooooow for me. She is lovely though.
ReplyDeleteIt's a Gershwin standard that has been sung by just about everyone including Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Peggy Lee and Judy Garland. I reckon Miss Dors does quite an admirable version, myself... Jx
DeleteShe did a great version of that Gershwin tune! How about this one by Cher! https://youtu.be/kVetUak_W5E xoxo
DeleteCher could belt out a torch song with the best off 'em - while wearing Bob Mackie! Jx
DeleteA true classic never ages, darling. And you should know. You look at one every morning in the mirror! Kizzes. And a champagne cocktail for all...
ReplyDeleteFlatterer. Having had a lie-in till 2pm after a night at the theatre [more on that later, no doubt!], when I look in the mirror I see Zelda looking out... Jx
DeleteShe was truly Fabulous and far more talented than most people thought at the time.
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame she was so mis-managed, was given some of the worst bottom-drawer songs to record for her albums, and basically pissed whatever money she did earn up the wall! Jx
