It's a new dawn, it's a new day

I'm off tonight to a tenth anniversary party for two dear friends Joe and Russ. To help me get into the swing of things, how about a clutch of "newer" choons that have caught my ear of late?

First up "the biggie"... This was only released on Friday morning, and has already clocked up 35 million views on YouTube!

By way of complete contrast, let's cheer ourselves up after all that impassioned angst - with a trip to a Disco that happens to be Purple:

Look out, world - Queen Madge is back!

Speaking of stroppy divas - one wonders how the divine former Eunice Kathleen Waymon might have greeted this ramped-up version of one of her biggest hits?

Heavens! I only mentioned them the other day - and now Gandalf and Gollum Tears for Fears are back, with their first new music for twenty years:

Ms Petras is in an apocalyptic mood, it seems...

...while the Nervo girls are feeling "arty":

And finally...

...what happens when Princesses collide?! This:

As ever, dear reader, let me know what you think...

  2. Anything Adele does ...I LOVE. But for me personally, Princess Kylie Minogue, and her collaboration with Years and Years does it for me. I have listened and watched the video several times over the last week.

    1. It is a great collaboration; although I do think the video is a little stilted at times... Jx

  3. Hmmm- not Adele's best foot forward... to much Aguilera messiness. Her vocals? Meh. The song? Maybe. Just heard Purple Disco Machine overhead at a store today and I rather love it. Made me feel like going out. Maluma is so HOT. Madge? Looks like Adele. She got her hair and her face ironed. Not her best song. Nina Simone Remix is fun, of course. Tears For Fears failed to make much of an impression... they look good, though. Petras - NO. Not much of a song. Nervo equally disappointing as Petras. And Kylie can do no wrong... Madonna should pay more attention to her... Kizzes. Hope you have a lovely weekend, dear. You deserve it.

    1. It's funny - I heard strains of Xtina in that Adele number, too, and it did leave shudders. I'm sure (like everything else Miss Adkins MBE has done) it will end up as an earworm regardless.

A fair review of the latest collection, Mr King! Jx

  4. I was going to "move along"...and then there was Nina. You are forgiven.

  5. I was going to skip past Adele's number but then thought that I'd give it a chance - I got two-and-a-half minutes in before I couldn't take it any more. Too much VOICE and not enough music to mask (or drown out) that whiny angst for me. Fortunately, Purple Disco Machine's "Dopamine" was just the pick-me-up!

Madonna & Maluma didn't make it past 1:19, but I quite liked the Nina Simone remix. Tears For Fears got two listens - I rather like it (although I can't help thinking of that inane "gameshow"!). Kim Petras and Nervo were perfectly serviceable, and I LOVED the costumes and look of "Horizon"!

Which leaves Kylie and Years & Years. I listened to it the other day and wasn't overly enthused, but with this second go something seems to have clicked inside me. I'm going to play it again...

    1. Glad you liked at least some of the selection. When I stumbled across Purple Disco Machine, I whooped with joy!

I felt exactly the same about the Kylie-Ollie number on first watch/listen, but a second listen warmed me to it - and I just heard it again on Radio 2 and found myself "la-la"-ing along, so it's a "grower"... Jx

  6. Adele: No.
    Purple Disco: Nice and eighties.
    Madonna: Big No.
    Nina Simone: Yes!
Tears for Fears: I will listen to it a few more times and force myself to love it. You put Gandalf and Gollum in my head prior to watching and all I could do was snigger.
Kim Petras: Sounds more like Madonna than Madonna.
    Nervo: Interpretive dance?
Kylie and Years & Years: Cute video!

    1. It was quite a shock to see what Curt and Roland looked like now. Lord of the Rings was the first thing that came to mind.

Quite a few thumbs-down for Adele, it seems... Jx

  7. A massive NO for the Adele number, leave the keening for Sinead O'Connor love.
