With a perfect twist of irony, as both I and The Madam are in work today, there's a beautiful clear blue sky out there. Tomorrow and Sunday, it's forecast that the pissing-down rain will return. Dammit!
Never mind, eh? It is the end of the week, and for that (rain or no rain) we should be glad. Let's grab a sequinned flowerpot-hat, squeeze ourselves into a wide-collar nylon jumpsuit and crank up the funky horns, just like Rokotto [whooo?] - and Thank Disco It's Friday!
To cheer us all up - that song was in the lower echelons of the UK charts this week forty-five years ago! Gulp.
Have a great weekend, dear reader!
When I was a very young child, "Bill and Ben, the Flowerpot Men" was broadcast briefly in Canada. I still recall the theme tune. Nobody here remembers this show but me. It's as if I dreamed it. So thank you for showing me that they actually existed.
ReplyDeleteFlobalobalob! Jx
DeleteWell this is a fun start to Friday! We're waiting for a storm here and since the leaves are still on the trees it could bring power outages. There's even threat of snow! We were without power for 12 hours last Sunday. It would be my luck that I'd lose power on the day IDV put up my pathetic Garden Party pics and then I'd not be there to comment. Have a good day at work!
ReplyDeleteOoh - are your photos next, Mel? I look forward to seeing them. Hopefully the storms won't blow them all away... Jx
DeleteThanks for bringing the funk, today. Those flower pots make me think of movie hosts Kukla, Fran and Ollie. Those puppets gave me nightmares. Heading out soon for happy hour at one of my favorite spots with one of my dearest besties. I am Ubering, so will be generously participating and spilling dirt like a punctured Hoover. Kizzes.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of Kukla, Fran, nor Ollie... Jx
DeleteI’m boogying on up. Before we moved to the glorious weather of San Diego, I remember our last summer in Connecticut when it was sunny all week and rained every weekend. Argh!!! (Well, what I actually said was SHIT!)
ReplyDeleteI hate weather like that - particularly in Summer. We in the UK have a lot of experience when it comes to "four seasons in one day", but with the encroachment of the shorter days, it's even more excruciating! Shit, indeed. Jx
DeleteRaining here already. Ugh. I don't remember this tune at all - though I always had time for Bill and Ben. Was it Mary Whitehouse who wanted them banned because she feared children wouldn't learn to speak properly if they watched them? What tosh!
ReplyDeleteFlobbleflibbleflobbleflobs.
Sx
Rokotto only had two "hits", and neither of them got higher than #40, so I'm not surprised you never heard of them.
DeleteAs for Mary Whitehouse, she wanted to ban everything! Incidentally, did you see Filth: The Mary Whitehouse Story starring Julie Walters? It was shown on BBC4 back in 2008, and it was brilliant! Jx
I haven't seen it, but I am a huge Julie Walters fan, so I will see if it's on iPlayer/Amazon/anywhere that might be streaming it! - Thank you!

Good luck with that one. I don't think it was even released on DVD... Jx
DeleteWell that cheered me up on me way to work
ReplyDeleteand we will
We'll weather the weather
Whatever the weather,
Whether we like it or not!
Have you got your skipping-rope out again? That's one of those chants from the school playground... Jx
DeleteI'm glad Mistress included a brief background about The Flowerpot Men. When the announcer referred to the drummer as the "funkiest flowerpot man" I wondered what he was talking about. "How many flowerpot men can there be?" I thought. Now I know.
ReplyDeleteOne of the very earliest programmes for children on the BBC - I was brought up on it - and, inevitably, it has been featured heavily over here in the various retrospectives on the 100th anniversary of Auntie Beeb. Hence why it was on my mind when I concocted this post. Jx
DeleteI think we all need a bit o' Gene Kelly, even here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1ZYhVpdXbQ
ReplyDeleteI prefer Morecambe and Wise, myself. Jx
