Quiet nights of quiet stars

RIP, the Queen of Tropicália, Gal Costa...

Here's just a mere pitada of the lady's fabulous talent - as she revists a classc from her roots in bossa nova:

Sublime.

  1. The sound of her voice always makes me melt. Sweet, rich, pure, incredible range, and oh what styling.

    1. A sad loss, indeed. The age of "proper" singers is fast declining, I fear. Jx

  2. Yep, she has a fine set of pipes! Yes, you're right, proper singers are being swept away by the electronically enhanced.

    1. It's such a shame there's so little talent around. Jx

  3. Her rendition of this is probably my favourite. And I had, among my collection, Doris Day, Astrud Gilberto, Stan Getz...smooth. Marries well with sparkling wine. Thanks for this.(ABC FM Jazz is playing quietly as I write.)

  4. Ah, my kind of drag queen. All that lovely, forgiving chiffon.

    1. Ah, yes - track #2 here. We know Lana/Al Pillay to whom you refer very well - and have seen her on stage many times, including (remarkably) portraying Miss Dorothy Squires!

There are indeed similarities with the late Senhora Costa, in everything but vocals. Jx

  6. Her voice was sublime and you have chosen the perfect song to say good bye.
