As "The Godfather of House" Frankie Knuckles famously said: "Disco music is alive and well and living in the hearts of music-lovers around the world. It has simply changed its name to protect the innocent." Jx
Yay, so happy to be here on a Friday. How I adore them. It makes me feel as if I have no responsibilities and no job. Lovely song and the gif makes me think of the Hee Haw honeys - I don't know if that show ever made the leap over the pond, but it's a bit of terrible American television that must be experienced to be believed. Hillbilly culture was huge in the midwest, which fueled the popularity of that syndicated show. Anyhoo... have a lovely one, dear. Love your blog. Kizzes.
That show sounds dreadful. We in the UK may suffer from "American cultural imperialism" more than most, but thankfully that never "crossed the pond". Unlike House music, to which I have no objection whatsoever.
I came here to say something sane and Savvy trumped me with "most folks had it off" Someone should tell her what that means here. What was I going to say?? Oh, yes! This is not a site where I expect to see bikini dancers. Have you come out of a different wardrobe and landed in Narnia????[tries to find Gincuzzi directions via Google.] "Not gonna happen,Lois." says a man with underdungers on the outside....
You know full well I have no interest in the bikini dancers other than the fact they're hilarious! Quite the wrong frontal arrangement.
On a similar subject - and for Savvy's benefit - yes, "having it off" is/was a phrase widely used in the UK to mean sex. Mainly in shows starring Robin Asquith, or in the Carry On films. Jx
Oh MY! Thank you, Dinah and Jon!! I will be far more careful in my choice of words! I should have said, Most folks have a 3 day weekend in honor of Veterans day when it falls on a Friday or Monday! More words but also no opportunity for inappropriate slang in other countries. (who says you can't learn anything blogging????) xoxo
Mr DeVice - it doesn't matter how cold it might have been when they filmed it, as it would appear they've popped enough "happy pills" to not even notice a thing.
Dinah - in the immortal words of Oscar Wilde: "We have really everything in common with America nowadays, except, of course, language.."
Oh my god, that GIF. Such complex lyrics in the video. How will I ever remember them?
ReplyDeleteHee hee! Not exactly Leonard Cohen, is it? Jx
Deletethat classic rhythm line will always fill up a dance floor.

DeleteHappy Friday! Jx
Three days! I am no longer a member of the (paid) workforce, but there is something special about Friday! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThree? Have you another bank holiday on Monday?
DeleteI treasure every weekend - it's my indulgence and recompense for the rest of the shit I have to deal with. Jx
No, today, Veterans day, is the holiday and most folks had it off, so that's the 3 day weekend. xoxo
DeleteThe USA has so many more holidays than we have! We get a bank holiday at the end of August, then nothing at all until Xmas Day. Jx

I was expecting to see Barbara Windsor in that gaggle of gals.
Delete"Oh, what a lovely pear."
DeleteOooh, ta!"
Very her... Jx
I bet the girls in that GIF were dealing with a freezing cold, overcast day just like Babs & Co. had to in Carry On Abroad, or Carry On Camping?!
DeleteHappy weekend!

I was thinking about the chilly women up top - they didn’t have spray tan back then to disguise it!
ReplyDeleteHope you’re having a great weekend!
Sx
It's been so warm and sunny today! Had it not got dark at around 4pm, one might have mistaken it for September. Jx
DeleteNow apart from the nausea and the fact that nobody in the GIF has got what I've been lookin for -
ReplyDeleteThe track was fab and I loved it.
We aim to please. Jx
