A good Barber is hard to find

Having enjoyed our "Trad Jazz moment" earlier this week so much, I was overjoyed to discover that one of the last surviving maestros of that pre-Beatles era Mr Chris Barber celebrated his 90th birthday yesterday - which gives me the perfect excuse to post a little bit more of the same...

Many happy returns, Donald Christopher Barber OBE (born 17th April 1930)

  1. I love Chris Barber - the female singer in his band, Ottilie Patterson, is a legend too

  2. Okay, but can you get a haircut from any barber?

  3. But they all look so very respectable for slinging red hot jazz.

    1. It was "a big thing" in 1950s Britain - white boys playing Dixieland jazz. They were rebelling against the "new wave" of "squeaky jazz" (by the likes of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Oscar Peterson, Dizzy Gillespie et al) that was flooding the market. Thank heavens they did; they kept that particular flame alive for decades... Jx
