You're broken-hearted, but you go on

Monday has come around again. Too soon. Too soon!

Never mind, eh? Today is the 115th anniversary of the birth of one of our greatest Patron Saints, The Merm - and what better wake-up call on a Tacky Music Monday could one ever have than she..?!

Ethel Merman (born Ethel Agnes Zimmermann, 16th January 1908 – 15th February 1984)

  1. Pauline Kael described that dress as "looking like it's eating Merman."

  2. It's amazing she could still belt it out given that she was sewn into the dress.

  3. Was always a huge fan! My paternal grandmother looked very much like Mermen in the performers later years. I always adored her, but my father never could take her voice. He said she screamed.

  7. In gay heaven? Her disco album plays non-stop in one of the bars! Or so I've heard. I'm... ummm, headed the other direction, I'm afraid. Sigh. Such is life.

  8. My gods! She was great belter. Yes, but she hit the right notes! When I was a kid we had Merman,Sinatra.Lanza,Callas...and others in the record cabinet. And, just now, on Aussie news, we were given (too much!) air time for Renee Geyer and NOTHING on the passing of La Lollo.
