Our glorious Rosa Veilchenblau rather likes this weather! (Not bad for a cutting, eh?) [click to embiggen]
It's official! The UK is in the middle of a heatwave - and I love it.
Talking the edge off it a little, however, there was some sad news yesterday - the very lovely Treat Williams was killed in a motorbike accident in the US.
Mr Williams may not have been a household name, and certainly his on-screen career was somewhat patchy - although he did have starring roles in Hair, Prince of the City and Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead, among others - but for us at Dolores Delargo Towers, it is for his part as "Michael Brick" in one of my favourite films ever The Ritz that we will forever remember him.
An excuse (as if I needed one) to revisit once again [see here for my original paean to this movie] a succession of highlights...
Simply faboo!
RIP, Richard Treat Williams (1st December 1951 – 12th June 2023)
I am such a bad gay. I hardly remember anything Treat Williams did. Although I did hear the news yesterday.
ReplyDeleteWell, to be honest, from looking at his filmography I am not really surprised. Apart from The Ritz and possibly Hair (which I never saw, but is quite famous for featuring lots of hot hippies), the majority of his films were in the sort of genre that neither of us would be into - a smattering of action films, a few rom-coms, and so on. Jx
DeleteYes, Treat Williams was certainly a treat. And your garden is glorious.
ReplyDeleteHe was 25 when The Ritz was released, and in his prime. Definitely a treat. Jx
DeletePS The garden's practically creaking with growth at the moment - and this is merely the start of it! We'll have a few more weeks of that fantabulosa Rosa Veilchenblau (our Gertude Jekyll's practically over already) before it hands over to the next "wave" - possibly the next to take "centre stage" might well be the lilies... Jx
I only have eyes for THAT ROSE BABY - and of course Ms. Moreno!
ReplyDeleteMet her, you know? Jx
DeletePS That rose is one of my proudest horticultural triumphs - it's perfect!
The Ritz is one of my all time favorite movies. Over the years, I have sung its praises to so many fellow travelers, and none of them have ever heard of it. Criminal. And Googie's big number is the absolute highpoint of the show, although Treat in a towle is a close second.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely one of my favourites, too - and yes, I too get blank looks when mentioning it in conversation. A lot. Jx
DeleteToo hot. I have wilted. Though I'm happy to see that your cutting is thriving!
ReplyDeleteApologies, I have not heard of Treat.
Sx
It's been another lovely day here, although I've been in another office today that has no air conditioning, so very stuffy indeed indoors!
DeleteThe rose is a joy... Jx
Joli jardin , Jon.
ReplyDeleteTreat Williams, rendre visite a sa famille qu'il adorait et etre prise comme ca, si tragique. *d'Anjou
It was very sad, indeed. Jx
DeleteI get my news through you, I guess. Was not aware of his death. Loved him in Hair. He was so easy on the eyes and always chose such odd films - he never went the traditional handsome hunk route - and The Ritz... priceless. Kizzes.
ReplyDeleteHe certainly didn't sacrifice his acting credentials in search of superstardom, like some... Jx
Deleteeverysing's coming hup hhhrrrossess! (then her shoe flies off). Loved it!
ReplyDeleteThe Ritz is a complete work of genius! RIP Terrence McNally... Jx
DeleteSad news he was so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe Ritz is one of my all-time fave films.
It is rather sad. This means that of the main cast, there's only F. Murray Abraham and the saintly Rita Moreno left. Jx
