Everybody say "di di di di... dance!"

I'm off to leafy Chiswick today, for a day of therapeutic shopping with our friend John-John. A suitable way to wind down after a week of gardening, methinks.

But of course, despite it being the last weekend of my leave before I return to "reality", there's always a reason to plan a party! So, let us don our best hand-made ultra-flared pink fancy suits, boogie on down with Crown Heights Affair - and Thank Disco It's Friday!

Have a good one...

  1. Oh.... I thought it was going to turn into the theme tune from that old holiday show, which I'm now going to have to go find!!
    Happy shopping!!!

  2. Damn it, I can't find it - I'm sure it was a holiday programme theme. If I could hum it to you, you would know. Maybe. My humming isn't very good.

  4. 4hrs later... I am thinking of the theme from Shaft, which was used for Holiday some time in the seventies. Phew! Thanks for sending me on a bit of a journey!!!

    1. Not so much a journey as a mythical quest, it seems!

I cannot, however, find any link between the "Theme From Shaft" nor anything quite so funky associated with either the Beeb's "Holiday" programme nor even ITV's "Wish You Were Here".

I wonder what programme you have in mind? Jx

    2. Trust me, Jon, it was used for the Holiday programme, though it drove me mad trying to confirm my memory! I found someone else with the same memory implant on this message board HERE. Scroll down to Lizzb. Maybe it wasn't used for long, it was a bit of a hot tune to go with the soft porn opening credits... maybe Mary Whitehouse stepped in?!!

    3. It must have been used very briefly - on the Wikipedia page for the show, it lists the themes over the years, including Hugo Montenegro, Jean Michel Jarre, Gordon Giltrap and Paul Hardcastle. It will remain a mystery, methinks... Jx

  5. If I can get a word in edgeways... (thank you, Ms Scarlet), I'd just like to say that I hope you didn't go shopping in those heels, Jon? Not if you were going to be on your feet all day, at any rate...?

    1. Always take TWO pairs of shoes anywhere, if one is in any serious danger of "shopping blisters"...

  6. FUCK YEAH! now THAT'S the way to kick off the weekend!

@ms scarlet - they are sampling the "theme from shaft" in the beginning...

    1. Crown Heights Affair may or may not have sampled the magnificent Van McCoy - there are certainly similarities - but, speaking of "Shafts", their first single was titled (You Can't Bend My) Super Rod...

      Saucy!

    2. PS I made a boo-boo in my reply to Anne-Marie above; it was of course Isaac Hayes who performed the Shaft theme, not Van McCoy (who did The Hustle)...
