Mama's good to you

The Daylight Savings Bill was only brought into law in 1916 to help farmers increase food supplies.

British Summer Time is officially here, dear reader - the clocks went forward yesterday, and everyone spent Sunday feeling slightly "jet-lagged" as a consequence - and, true to form, temperatures are set to plummet.

Just in time for my planned annual leave which starts on Wednesday (yay!)... [So it's a very short week for moi, but today and tomorrow are bound to be manic as I try to get a handover sorted.]

Yes, I know Mothers' Day was yesterday - but on this Tacky Music Monday, I felt a bit of Lulu and her magnificently be-quiffed safety gays wouldn't go amiss:

Have a good week, folks.

  1. Adore Lulu. She's such a trouper! And never more lovely. Is she a Dame? She should be... she worked with Bowie and was married to a Bee Gee. In fact, thanks for shining the light, she's going on my Sunday Divas list. Enjoy your Monday. And I didn't understand the whole mother's day thing. We don't celebrate until May. On that day? I allow mine to have a cocktail and say all the vicious things I tell her she must keep in check on all the other days of the year. Kizzes.

    1. We love Lulu, too - a "national treasure" if ever there was one!

Mothering Sunday in March dates back to the 16th century and beyond, and was originally to do with the Virgin Mary, then to the "mother church", and eventually to all mothers - servants were allowed that day off to visit their own mother, for example.

Mothers' Day in May was invented in America in 1908 by a lady called Anna Jarvis, but even she came to hate its commercialisation and called it "Hallmark Holiday"!

We in the UK stick to the former - although it, too, is a commercial exercise nowadays. Jx

PS Must have cocktails with your mother sometime...

  2. I love Lulu, but this won’t be in my top 10. She had a bit of trouble with her wink at the end... It looked more like a blink.

I am so sick of Daily Saving Time. Apparently Brexit is now being partially blamed for its continuation.

    1. She was probably having an allergic reaction to all that hairspray... Jx

  3. Great rendition, but my all time favorite will always be Queen Latifah's version!

    1. We have a lot of time for dear Dana Owens - her "standards" album remains a treasure of our collection! When such divas as Alison Moyet, Patti LaBelle, Valerie Simpson, Bebe Neuwirth, Jennifer Holliday, Sheila Ferguson, Lea DeLaria, Angie Stone, Marcia Lewis, Ruthie Henshall and even Lynda Carter have played the role, however, can we ever really say who might be "the best"? 4. Are you off somewhere?! I will have to scamper through all your blog posts I've missed to see what you're up to.
Nice having the light evenings, but it was buggering chilly this morning.

    1. Scamper through at your leisure, dear! You've not been here for a little while.

We're not on any exotic holiday, btw, just Braintree! Jx
