Getaway

It might still be mild temperatures in London today, but the wind and rain are typically autumnal - and needless to say the spaces in the garden I cleared yesterday are once again covered in leaf slime...

Sigh.

Hey ho - Our Sal, Hils, History Boy, Madam Arcati and I are off to Ally Pally for Sondheim on Sondheim later, and, it being an early evening show we're gathering in the local Wood Green Wetherspoons for lunch. We make our own "silk purses out of sow's ears", as the saying goes!

Whenever the weather turns, our thoughts turn to jetting away from it all. And yes, we have booked our next jaunt to Spain - although we do have to wait until February for that. And we'll be flying EasyJet, not Quantas in the early 1970s, unfortunately:

It's been a while since we've wallowed in the cavorting of glamorous people in exotic locations, courtesy of the faboo Soft Tempo Lounge, has it not, dear reader? Note to self: must. do. this. more. often.

  1. Oh, STL aboard a Quantas 747 is as sublime as ever! But who allowed that little brat from steerage up the stairs to the first class lounge? I'm trying to relax!!

    Have fun this evening!

  2. So relaxing, the 747 jumbo jet and the lounge music. Sydney to London with ease,
unlike earlier times when you would have to switch on multiple aircraft on endless stops in noisy aircraft.
And you’ll never see food like that again on any airline today !
One of the finest airline services was the Coral Route of TEAL of New Zealand.
Luxury and gourmet dining aloft as you were flown from Auckland to Fiji, the Cook Islands, Tahiti, Samoa and Tonga on Short Solent flying boats. :)

    1. The past was a very different country, indeed. "Luxury" dining? On most short-haul flights these days, you're lucky if there's anything on offer except variations on a sandwich. I can't comment on medium- or long-haul... Jx

  3. Earlier this year the maid and I flew from Manchester to Tenerife, the plane we were suppose to have been on was held up somewhere so they flew us on the Tui Dreamliner, oh, what a treat, they didn't serve lobster or complimentary drinks and the people on our flight were common, but I've never enjoyed a flight more. However, on our flight home on a bog standard Boeing 737 felt like purgatory.

    1. Our flight home from Amsterdam Schiphol a few years back was a substitute plane, too - crewed and on loan from a Lithuanian airline Avion Express. Lovely uniforms, comfortable seats - such a great contrast to EasyJet! No lobster, but then again, it is only around 45 minutes in the air going back to London. Jx

  4. Qantas Empire Airways, I had no idea. Glad you have another week in the sun to look forward to. Sorry it can’t be sooner. But Sondheim on Sondheim would sure help.
