You know you're getting old when...
...you find out that Joe Brown's little girl Sam was 60 years old yesterday!
She's worked with some of the biggest and the best musicians in the world in her time, including David Gilmour and Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, the Small Faces, Jimmy Page, Gary Moore, George Harrison, Nick Cave and, most enduringly, Jools Holland - but it is for this anthem for the jilted that we love her the most.
I absolutely, utterly adore this song...
All that I have is all that you've given me
Did you ever worry that I'd come to depend on you?
I gave you all the love I had in me
Now I find you've lied and I can't believe it's true
Wrapped in her arms I see you across the street
And I can't help but wonder if she knows what's going on
You talk of love but you don't know how it feels
When you realise that you're not the only one
Oh you'd better stop before you tear me all apart
You'd better stop before you go and break my heart
Ooh you'd better stop
Time after time I've tried to walk away
But it's not that easy when your soul is torn in two
So I just resign myself to it every day
Now all I can do is to leave it up to you
Oh you'd better stop before you tear me all apart
You'd better stop before you go and break my heart
Ooh you'd better stop
Stop if you love me
(You will remember)
Now's the time to be sorry
(That day forever)
I won't believe that you'd walk out on me
Oh you'd better stop before you tear me all apart
You'd better stop before you go and break my heart
Ooh you'd better stop!
Been there.
Samantha Brown (born 7th October 1964)
I don’t know if I’ve ever even heard the song before.
ReplyDeleteIt's magnificent! And her only hit... Jx

ReplyDeleteLike you I adore this song and her
Can't remember the last time I heard this played; which is rather shocking.
I also cant believe she is 60 ! when I was a nipper I had the most massive crush on her Dad.
A crush on Joe Brown? I always thought he was a bit odd-looking. Jx
DeleteIt's a great song, but like Moving with Mitchell, I didn't know it. Thanks for the introduction.
ReplyDeleteYet another in a long line of great artists who never "crossed the pond", it seems... Jx
DeleteI like this! Strong sexy voice! I've never heard her or this song before, but I practically live in a bog with little outside influences. :)
ReplyDeleteHer voice is/was astounding. Such a shame she never hit the "big time". Apparently she had something go wrong with her vocal chords in 2007, and nowadays is more of a music/singing teacher - and musical director for a ukelele band! - and doesn't sing live any more. Jx
DeleteBlimey! I haven't heard this in decades! It was on Now 14 along with that other 80s "Stop!" - by Erasure.
ReplyDeleteI looked up that compilation. So many great tunes! Neneh Cherry Buffalo Stance, S-Express Hey Music Lover, Fine Young Cannibals She Drives Me Crazy, Marc Almond & Gene Pitney Something's Gotten Hold Of My Heart, Adeva Respect - the list goes on...
DeleteI miss the 1980s. Jx
