Wheeee!
The weekend is in sight - and it looks like it might be a sunny one...
Apropos of nothing at all - just because it's become a bit of an "earworm" these last couple of days - here's our own, our very own eternally aloof Miss Ellis-Bextor to help bring the party to life!
Now you'll have that in your head all day, dear reader. You're welcome.
Have a great weekend in the sunshine, peeps!
PS
RIP, Donald Sutherland (17th July 1935 - 20th June 2024)
Nope, I won’t have it in my head all day (he says as he sings to himself Heartbreak make me a dahncer, dahncer). What on earth is that first clip from?
ReplyDeleteI knew the earworm would work!
DeleteThat gif - no idea. Some tacky South American talent show for kids, by the look of it... The expression on that child's face is priceless: "You expect me to do that?!"Jx
The musical intro on Ms Bextor's tune is from something else and I'm scratching my brain out trying to remember what it is! Used in a film as well. Grrrr. I think it might be a scene bridging tune in Pretty in Pink - I'm probably going to have to watch the whole film now to find out!!
ReplyDeleteRIP Donald - you were great.
Sx
I never picked up on any sampling in this one - but basically, everyone was at it in the late 90s/early Noughties, so there's no telling what the Freemasons might have sneaked in there. If you find out, please let us know, Ms Scarlet! Jx
DeletePS Never seen Pretty in Pink, so I can't comment on anything except The Psychedelic Furs one.
I think it's a teeny tiny snippet of New Order - Thieves Like Us? It sounds a bit New Order like to me.
DeleteSx
SCRUB that! I found it - Elegia by New Order - got there in the end. God I love New Order!

You'd need to speed it up a bit - maybe play the Low-Life LP on 45?
DeleteIt amazes me that a band of their calibre had so few hits in the charts [when charts were charts, and people bought actual copies of actual records]... Jx
PS Blogger's weirdness never fails to perplex me. For some reason I never get email notifications when either Mistress Maddie or Mr Peenee post a comment to my blog, and my own replies always go to junk, whereas everyone else's are OK - but today I got notified TWICE for each of yours! The gnomes have been at the spice jar again... Jx
DeleteWhat rhymes with darnser...arnser
ReplyDeleteSuch perfect English diction. Jx
DeleteNow that's an earworm I welcome! Thank you, Jon
ReplyDeleteNot-yet-a-Dame Sophie's maaaarvelous, isn't she?
DeleteI can't remember if I mentioned it, but when John-John and I were on our annual post-Xmas shopping trip to Chiswick we were walking along the street, and she, hubby Richard and the whole tribe of sprogs were heading towards us, obviously on their way to Waitrose or somewhere lovely. Her mum Janet lives in the area, so I was surprised she wasn't with them. Oh, the celebrity world we live in... Jx
Another singer that I somehow managed to miss, sweetpea! Was she a hit on this side of the pond, too? I'm starting to wonder WTF I was doing during the 90s! Ah, Mr. Sutherland, Such a gem! Truly the wrong Donald was taken yesterday. xoxo
ReplyDeleteI looked up her discography, and no - it doesn't look like she ever "crossed the pond" (hit-wise). Over here she had a string of Top Ten hits in the early Noughties. This one was from 2009.
DeleteNot sure if you ever saw the film Saltburn [I haven't], but there's a famous naked-dancing-in-a-stately-home scene that used her hit Murder on the Dancefloor - and promptly made it a #1 hit earlier this year!
We love her! Jx
I love that song. And her other big number, Groovejet, is just as earwormable.
ReplyDeleteI love Groovejet (If This Ain't Love) - it was her debut hit back in 2000, and I remember everyone was talking about it, and her, for ages. The blend of "posh school" vocals and dance music was so unexpected... Jx
DeleteI will have 'Dauwnsur, Dauwnsur' stuck in my head all day now and to that there is no auwncur,
ReplyDeleteand I am happy with that; I Adore Dame Sophie of Ellis-Bextor (and her Mum).
Hee hee. My work here is done. Jx
